Who sits DELE B2
B2 is the level many universities and employers ask for when study or work takes place in Spanish. It shows that you can follow complex texts on general and professional topics and take part in a discussion with some fluency.
How to prepare
Reading. Seventy minutes for 36 questions. Task 4 has fourteen grammar and vocabulary gaps and is the most frequent place to lose points: drill verb government (depender de, consistir en), subjunctive triggers and connectors. In task 2, four texts and ten statements, mark the sentence in the text that supports each answer.
Listening. Five tasks, 30 questions. Task 2 asks which speaker expresses each idea; ideas are paraphrased, so listen for meaning rather than repeated words. Task 5 is a talk or lecture with six questions.
Writing. Eighty minutes for two texts of 150 to 180 words. Task 1 starts from a recording: take notes while it plays, because the letter must use what you heard. Task 2 is chosen from two options, such as an article commenting on data or a review.
Speaking. Twenty minutes to prepare tasks 1 and 2. In task 1 you assess proposals on a problem and then defend your view with the examiner. Task 2 starts from a photo of a situation; task 3 asks you to comment on survey results. Practise agreeing, disagreeing and conceding (es cierto que…, pero…).
Common mistakes
- Writing task 1 without notes and missing the facts from the recording.
- Giving opinions without reasons or examples.
- Treating speaking task 1 as a monologue and not responding to the examiner’s objections.
