Listen to a conversation and complete seven sentences, filling each gap from eight options.

Part of the 25-minute listening test: 25 questions, 25 points, in group 2 with speaking. Every correct answer counts the same, and a wrong answer costs nothing.

    Ana describes her flat as small but very pretty: Es pequeño, pero es muy bonito.

  • 2 G el centro

    Jorge asks where the flat is, and Ana answers En el centro, en la calle Mayor.

  • 3 E la cocina

    Ana says the kitchen is very big and adds Me gusta mucho, porque me encanta cocinar, so what she likes is the kitchen.

  • 4 H un balcón

    The flat has no terrace (no tiene terraza), but it has a balcony full of plants: tiene un balcón con muchas plantas.

  • 5 A por la noche

    Ana's flatmate Clara is a nurse who works nights: Es enfermera y trabaja por la noche. The morning is when Clara sleeps.

  • 6 C metro

    Ana goes to university by underground (En metro), because the station is five minutes away. She mentions the bus only to say it is very slow (El autobús es muy lento), so F is the option left over.

  • 7 D el postre

    Ana invites Jorge to dinner on Saturday, and he offers to bring dessert: Yo llevo el postre. Ana is the one making the paella.

Jorge: Hola, Ana. ¿Qué tal tu piso nuevo? ¿Estás contenta?

Ana: ¡Hola, Jorge! Sí, muy contenta. Es pequeño, pero es muy bonito.

Jorge: ¿Dónde está?

Ana: En el centro, en la calle Mayor, al lado de una plaza. Hay muchas tiendas y cafeterías.

Jorge: ¿Cuántas habitaciones tiene?

Ana: Tiene dos habitaciones, un salón, un baño y una cocina. La cocina es muy grande. Me gusta mucho, porque me encanta cocinar.

Jorge: ¿Y tiene terraza? Me encantan las terrazas.

Ana: No, no tiene terraza, pero tiene un balcón con muchas plantas.

Jorge: ¿Vives sola?

Ana: No, vivo con mi amiga Clara. Es enfermera y trabaja por la noche. Por eso duerme por la mañana y yo no hago ruido.

Jorge: ¿Y cómo vas a la universidad?

Ana: En metro. La estación está muy cerca, a cinco minutos. El autobús es muy lento.

Jorge: ¿Es caro el piso?

Ana: No mucho. Pagamos cuatrocientos euros al mes cada una.

Jorge: ¡Qué bien! ¿Puedo ir a verlo?

Ana: Claro. ¿Vienes el sábado a cenar? Hago una paella.

Jorge: Perfecto. Yo llevo el postre.

Ana: ¡Genial! Hasta el sábado.

What DELE A1 listening task 4 tests

In the official guide, the recording is a talk between two speakers about known or everyday subjects. The task tests whether you can understand names, words and phrases when people speak slowly and clearly. You get time to read the sentences first, and the conversation is played twice.

The lesson on listening task 4 gives the full method and a worked conversation.

Common traps

  1. Two options can fit a gap equally well on the page, such as martes and jueves after el. Only the conversation decides, so note both while you read and listen for the day.
  2. A speaker can correct a detail. After Vivo en el tercero. Bueno, no, en el cuarto, the floor named last is the one that counts.
  3. The option left over can still be in the conversation. A word such as taxi can come up only because the speaker decides against it.

Answer and explanation

Answer: su prima

Toni names the person straight away: Voy a ir al museo con mi prima Rosa. His parents come up later, for dinner (vamos a cenar en casa de mis padres), so b belongs to another part of the day. Nobody mentions a sister, so c is wrong.
