What DELE C1 listening task 2 tests

The official guide sets this task on personal and transactional conversations between two people, from public or working life. It tests whether you can understand specific information and infer what is implied in a conversation, identifying the speakers’ opinions or attitudes. Each conversation is played twice.

The official model exam for this task, with its recording, is listed on the C1 model exams page.

The lesson on listening task 2 gives the full method and a worked conversation with two questions.

Common traps

  1. ¡Anda ya! and ¡Venga ya! express disbelief, and a reluctant Hombre... often comes before a concession, so a question on how a speaker reacts can turn on one word.
  2. En principio, sí means yes with reservations, and the reservation usually follows. An option that has the speaker accept without conditions stops listening too early.
  3. Each conversation carries two questions, and one can ask how it ends. A speaker who starts by objecting can come round, or the other way round, by the last turn.

Worked example

Transcript of the recording

Answer and explanation

En principio, sí already announces a reservation, so a is wrong. His objection to the six weeks softens after the woman's ¡Anda ya! (Hombre, visto así...), so the length of the work does not make him reject the quote. He does refuse to pay half in advance, which leaves b: general acceptance with an objection.
