What DELE C1 listening task 3 tests

The official guide sets this task on interviews and debates from the media, in public or working life. It tests whether you can catch the essential ideas, extract concrete information and infer possible implications in long exchanges, and the recording is played twice.

The official model exam for this task, with its recording, is listed on the C1 model exams page.

The lesson on listening task 3 gives the full method and a worked interview extract.

Common traps

  1. The guide lists debates as well as interviews. With more than one guest, a question that starts Según la presentadora or names one guest needs that person's words, and the others may say the opposite.
  2. Yo no diría tanto or Yo no lo plantearía así rejects the way the interviewer framed the question. What follows is the guest's own view, and an option built on the question's wording repeats the frame the guest refused.
  3. Si hubiera sabido..., no habría... describes a past that did not happen. Si hubiera sabido lo duro que iba a ser, quizá no me habría presentado means the speaker did apply and now looks back, so an option saying they never applied is wrong.

Worked example

Transcript of the recording

Entrevistadora: Dicen que su trabajo consiste sobre todo en apagar incendios.
Raquel: Yo no diría tanto.

  1. a) apagar incendios.
  2. b) prevenir incendios.
  3. c) formar a nuevos bomberos.
Answer and explanation

Answer: b) prevenir incendios.

Option a repeats the interviewer's premise, which Raquel rejects (Yo no diría tanto). She says most of the year goes on clearing woodland and firebreaks, so that fires do not start, which is prevention, answer b. Training never comes up.
