What DELE B2 listening task 3 tests

The official guide sets this task on a radio or television interview in which the guest explains, describes or argues. It tests whether you can extract concrete, detailed information and infer possible implications, so some questions ask what the guest means as well as what they say. The interview is played twice.

The lesson on listening task 3 gives the full method and a worked interview.

Common traps

  1. Antes venían cien niños al taller; este curso, apenas una docena never says that attendance fell, but a question about this year expects you to draw that conclusion.
  2. Ha sido un año complicado and no ha sido nuestro mejor momento soften bad news: things went badly, so an option describing a good year misreads the tone.
  3. No... hasta que marks when something started. No supe lo que me iba a cambiar la vida hasta que acepté means the guest realised it only after accepting, so an option saying they knew from the start is wrong.

Worked example

Transcript of the recording

Answer and explanation

Elena calls the year complicado and compares the usual harvest with menos de la mitad this summer, which implies much less honey, answer a. She never mentions selling hives, and the flowers lasted a very short time because of the drought, so c reverses what she says.
